Our Focus Is On Childrens' Education

"The elementary child has reached a new level of development. Before, he was interested in things: working with his hands, learning the names of things, now, he is interested in the how and why…the problem of cause and effect."  - Dr. Maria Montessori

Lower Elementary - Grades 1-3

Dr. Montessori observed that 6-9 year old children are enthusiastic about learning, filled with wonder, and exploding into the social realm.

The Lower Elementary environment hums with the sounds of collaboration, problem-solving, and exploration of concepts from concrete to abstraction. Students learn through individual investigation, small and large group instruction, and working collaboratively with peers. Montessori materials and philosophy are the core of our curriculum, with supplemental materials provided when appropriate.

The three-year work cycle allows 6-9 year olds to be challenged and supported at their own pace, providing the oldest students valuable opportunities for leadership and the younger students the opportunity to learn and be inspired by role models.

Our curriculum exceeds the standards set by the Ohio Department of Education and allows students to explore their interests, creating an optimal and empowering learning experience.

Areas of classroom study include:

  • Language Arts
  • Mathematics
  • Cultural Studies (Geography, History, and Cosmic Education)
  • Science
  • Practical Life (care of the self and the home/classroom)

Students are encouraged to be peaceful problem solvers in academics and social/emotional skills, something that Dr. Montessori called "Grace and Courtesy." In addition to our classroom studies, students participate weekly in art, musical theater, and physical education classes.
