Our Focus Is Following Your Child
―
Toddler Environment: 18 Months - Age 3
Canton Montessori School is committed to promoting quality and professional Montessori care to foster the development of basic trust and to assist in the development of the individual personality. These key concepts are the foundation of the CMS program.
Our toddler environment (ages 18 months to 3 years old) responds to your child’s need for safety, security, and exploration while supporting your child’s emerging skills. Each child is recognized and respected as an individual through:
-Understanding that toddlers learn through their senses by watching and moving freely in the environment.
-“Hands-on” experiences including language skills, motor skills, problem-solving, care of the environment, and social interactions.
-Encouraging toddlers to participate in their daily routines of self-care.
In addition, children in the toddler environment begin to develop empathy by observing others, beginning to recognize and label feelings, beginning to understand their impact on others, and beginning to recognize skills and actions for helping.
Children take an active part in caring for the physical and human environments by self-care, cleaning, restoring, caring for plants and animals, and basic ecology. They learn to care for their belongings, to greet others, to wait their turn, and to serve others in activities such as setting the table, offering activities and food, and assisting others with a task.
